Which Class To Choose?

Whichever Class You Choose, Everyone is Welcome!

We offer a wide range of days and times for our classes, courses, events and retreats so there is something accessible for everyone throughout the week. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a complete beginner or someone with years of experience in meditation. Our general programme classes and events make up the bulk of what we offer but for further information about the three different programmes we offer, please see our separate page.

In essences however, all of our evening classes, lunchtime meditations and Saturday events are suitable for both beginners and those with experience of meditation. Beginners are also welcome at our retreat days and weekends.

Questions

Answers to some common questions are given below as well as links to all our class venues and our events by type.

Our centre and branch classes are open to the public and anyone can attend an event, class or simply pop-in to our centre in Plymouth for a coffee and a slice of cake in our World Peace Café. You do not need to be a Buddhist, or need to become one, to attend. Everyone, regardless of their level of experience or background, can come and benefit from these classes.

We hold classes and meditation events throughout the week and at weekends in the evenings and during the day, both at our main centre in Plymouth and at our various branches in Devon and East Cornwall.

Below you’ll find quick links to our various classes, venues, retreats and other events – scroll down or jump to the list HERE.

You don’t need to come to special class for beginners. Simply come along to one of our evening classes at either the centre in Plymouth or one of our branch classes elsewhere. Alternatively, you could try one of our weekday lunchtime meditations at the centre.  All these classes are self-contained, have teacher led guided meditations and there are plenty of experienced people about who will be only too pleased to help and advise you. The best way to begin a meditation practice is simply to come to a class.

No – simply wear what is comfortable for you to sit in. You might find a notebook and pen helpful to jot down some key points in a class for future reference though. We sit on chairs for these classes but at the centre in Plymouth, floor cushions are also available to use if you prefer.

In these classes we can learn simple and practical advice that makes sense according to our daily experience and use this to solve our daily problems. In this way we come to experience a sense of peace and happiness in our lives. These classes provide a perfect introduction to Buddhist teachings and meditations. Most classes start with a guided breathing meditation to calm our mind and help us focus in the the class, followed by a teaching on a given topic and ends with a further guided meditation. There is the opportunity to discuss the class afterward with fellow attendees and to ask the teacher questions.

Yes. With just a couple of exceptions in each year, all our evening classes, weekend half-day and full-day courses and our weekend urban retreats, other retreats and empowerments are suitable for everyone. Any events which might need some previous experience are labelled as such; so generally speaking everyone is welcome at everything we put on.
