A Little About Us

Kadampa Meditation Centre Plymouth is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers from our wonderful community and others who want to give their time and energy. The centre is a haven of peace in our busy city and welcomes everyone to experience the many benefits of meditation. Working with our wonderful volunteers helps us to help to others – which is a wonderful thing to do! Caring for, and helping others, is a true source of happiness, which is something we all want in life. Everyone is welcome at KMC Plymouth be it to help out or simply to attend one of our many classes and events.

Below you will see our current opportunities but if you have any other time or skills to offer, we would be very pleased to hear from you. You can contact us HERE .

A Few Points to Consider

Do I Need To Be Into Meditation or Buddhism to Volunteer?
No. Everyone is welcome at KMC Plymouth and if you would like to volunteer your time to help us we would be pleased to hear from you. Of course, if you are interested in meditation, then there’s no better place to spend your time than at the centre!

Do I Need a Skill to Volunteer?
No. Whilst we love to hear from people with a range of specific skills and trades, there’s always something we would appreciate help with and where needed we can provide training to you; so, you do not need to have any special skills to help us as your enthusiasm is the key thing!

Young People
We can only allow those under the age of 18 to volunteer at the centre if they are supervised by a parent or guardian  over the age of 18 at all times.

Making Friends, Having Fun and Giving To Others!

Donations

If you would like to donate goods, services or funds to help us keep the centre running, you can find information about how to do so on our denotations page. Everything we receive is truly appreciated.

World Peace Café, KMC Plymouth: Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to come and support us at our World Peace Café at Kadampa Meditation Centre Plymouth. Our café is open to public and offers a range of hot and cold drinks together with a selection of light snacks and homemade cakes. It provides a relaxed and friendly space to enjoy some peace and quiet in the city where everyone is welcome. You would be undertaking a range of tasks from making coffee through to welcoming visitors to the centre.

What’s It All About?

Is Experience Required?
No. Whilst previous experience is a bonus for us, we’ll support you in your volunteering. See below.

When Is The Café Open?
The café is open on weekdays, Monday to Friday, between 10am and 2pm. We are  usually closed on bank holidays.

What Do The Café Volunteers Do?
Volunteers can learn a range of café skills, from customer services to coffee creation! Whilst volunteering with us your opportunities include working as a barista, greeting and serving customers, and welcoming attendees to our lunchtime classes. Some general cleaning duties will also be required.

Is Training Provided?
Yes! We’ll support you to ensure you are capable of undertaking the tasks you will be undertaking.

Are There Any Perks?
Yes! You’ll become a trained barista and gain work experience to help with any future jobs you have.

Also, as a café volunteer you’ll be able to enjoy a free lunchtime meditation class and one free coffee or tea per shift. There’s also the good feelings and friendships that come from volunteering: helping others is a wonderful thing to do with your time!

How Many Hours Do I Need to Volunteer For?
We ask that our volunteers commit to a minimum of one shift per week.

Ideally you will be able to come in for a short period before we open and stay a short while after we close. The café is open from 10am to 2pm, Mondays through Fridays and is usually closed on bank holidays.

We can be flexible with days we need volunteers for but we prefer that anyone offering to volunteer is able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis. We do have opening breaks at Christmas, Easter and usually from late July through to the start of September. For occasions when “life happens” and you may not be able to come in on a given day, our group of café volunteers work flexibly to help cover each other.
