Learn to Meditate

Special Half Day Meditation Event in Appledore

Saturday 10th January 2026, 10am-1.15pm

with Heide – Bideford Branch Class Teacher

Venue
Blue Lights Hall, 2 Vernons Lane, APPLEDORE, EX39 1QU

Learn to Meditate

Everyone is welcome on this half-day course to experience for yourself, the inner peace and happiness of meditation. Suitable for beginners as well as those with experience.

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions.

Meditation is for everyone and anyone can do it. We might think that it is somehow difficult, that we need special conditions, lots of time or to learn the “secrets” to meditate effectively. But, the simple fact is that with a little advice, and a little understanding, we can start to meditate straightaway and enjoy some inner peace of mind using very simple, yet powerful techniques.

We can build on these simple beginnings to explore and understand how our mind works, how to overcome everyday problems and to enjoy a peaceful happy mind all the time, no matter what life brings. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Love Is The Great Protector

Special Half Day Meditation Event in Appledore

Saturday 16th May 2026, 10am-1.15pm

with Heide – Bideford Branch Class Teacher

Venue
Blue Lights Hall, 2 Vernons Lane, APPLEDORE, EX39 1QU

Love Is The Great Protector

This event is suitable for everyone and no previous experience is required. Everyone is welcome!

Most relationships between people are based on a mixture of love and attachment. This is not pure love because it is based on a desire for our own happiness – we value the other person because they make us feel good.

Pure love has no conditions and stems entirely from a concern for others’ happiness. It never gives rise to problems but only to peace and happiness for both ourself and others. We need to remove attachment from our minds, but this does not mean that we have to abandon our relationships. Rather, we should learn to distinguish attachment from love, and gradually try to remove all traces of attachment from our relationships and to improve our love until it becomes pure.

Understanding The Mind

Special Half Day Meditation Event in Appledore

Saturday 10th October 2026, 10am-1.15pm

with Heide – Bideford Branch Class Teacher

Venue
Blue Lights Hall, 2 Vernons Lane, APPLEDORE, EX39 1QU

Understanding The Mind

This half day course will look at the Buddhist way of understanding the mind so that we can identify and, using practical techniques, let go of painful feelings and replace them with peaceful, meaningful and beneficial ones.

Using a little wisdom and easy to use meditations, we can develop personal insights into our own habits of mind, understanding how they are helping or hindering us. Further, we can then learn how to develop confidence in our ability to transform the mind and discover true happiness from within.

Everyone is welcome and this half-day course is a valuable introduction for beginners and an excellent refresher for those with experience of meditation.
