Why do we sometimes lack the confidence and belief in ourselves to do and be the things we want? When we see ourselves from a limited perspective, holding self-critical opinions and failing to see our true potential, we experience unhappy states of mind – these can be deeply ingrained within us and need powerful wisdom for us to be able to let go of them.
When we understand why we have these thoughts and feelings, and that they merely obscure our true nature and potential for lasting happiness and confidence, we can break free and enjoy the emotional freedom that is the actual true nature of our mind.
We will enjoy meaningful self-confidence to the benefit of ourselves and others. Each session will contain guided meditations and teachings we can take with us from the class, to move forward with confidence.

Session 2: 12pm – 1.15pm Teaching with guided meditations

Many people find it helpful to have a mala, or set of prayer beads, to use when reciting mantras to count how many they have completed. Mantra means “mind protection” and for centuries, mantra recitation has been used to attain a peaceful and happy mind by pacifying the negative thoughts that give rise to our suffering. It is the supreme method to enhance the qualities of our body and mind.
During the first part of this event Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Dragden, will explain the use of mantras and how to use and care for a mala. In the second part, our centre volunteer Georgie, will show you how to make and mend malas. You can then make one yourself with the materials provided. If you wish to take your mala home with you, you may do so for a small additional fee.
Its a wonderful chance to spend time with like minded people and if the use of malas and Mantras is new to you, here is a rare opportunity to learn about them.

with Heide – Bideford Branch Class Teacher
How often in life do you dream of getting away? Leaving daily life behind and experiencing some relief from our everyday stresses, anxieties and responsibilities. We reach out to friends and family, to the activities we enjoy and the places where we would rather be! But, we never really find the peace, contentment and space we truly desire.
The only place we don’t look to try to fulfill our wish to be happy all the time, is inwards, but on this special half-day meditation event with our Bideford branch class teacher Heide, we will come to understand the source of the true happiness we seek, how we can reach inwards to experience it and carry it forth into our daily lives. We will find true freedom.

This retreat is a wonderful opportunity to learn to rely on Vajrasattva, the Buddha of purification, and practice a special meditation to free ourselves from all of our negative karma.
We spend all our time and energy trying to avoid problems by making changes to our external world. However, our unhappiness and difficulties are not caused by the external world but are the result of the negative karma we have created in the past through our own harmful actions.
By relying on Vajrasattva, all our experiences will be positive, we will have a peaceful, pure mind and will easily remove obstacles to our spiritual development.

Many of us experience varying degrees of worry, foreboding and outright anxiety as we go through our daily lives. We may simply feel overwhelmed at times by the demands our friends, family, work and the everyday things in life. Sometimes, its simply too much for us. We can be certain that at some point, life will not go as we would like, so how do we cope with so many challenges? There are wonderful, practical and effective solutions we can all learn to use.
In this half-day event, we will learn how through controlling our mind and learning to respond skilfully to life’s challenges, we can free ourselves from our difficulties, from niggling doubts through to crippling fears and other painful emotions. We can gain the ability to approach normally anxiety-inducing situations with the confidence of a peaceful mind and a good heart – enabling us to remain on an even keel and sail calmly through troubled waters!
With Christmas just around the corner, treat yourself to an early Christmas present, and learn how to enjoy the festive season free from stress and anxiety.
