White Tara Empowerment

Saturday 16th March 2024, 10am – 4.30pm

During this very special day, Gen Kelsang Dragden, Resident Teacher at KMC Plymouth, will grant the blessing empowerment of White Tara, an enlightened being who bestows long life, good fortune and wisdom.

We need a long life to complete our spiritual practice, wisdom to free ourselves and others from our everyday suffering, and good fortune or positive energy, to achieve a long-lasting experience of inner peace and happiness.

If we rely sincerely upon White Tara with faith, she will protect us from dangers of fire, and untimely death. Ultimately, she will guide us to the state of Buddhahood.

We shall be using the Sadhana (prayer booklet) entitled The Yoga of White Tara, Buddha of Long Life, available from Tharpa Publications HERE.

What is an Empowerment?
An Empowerment is an event in which we receive, or have bestowed upon us, special blessings (the transformation of our mind from an unhappy state to a happy state), that heal our mental continuum and awaken our pure nature – our potential we all have to become an enlightened being.

An Empowerment is the gateway through which we enter the Tantric teachings of Buddha; the means of training our mind by bringing the future result, or Buddhahood, into the present. It is the supreme path to full enlightenment.

Overcoming Anxiety

Saturday 23rd March 2024, 10am – 1.15pm

We can all experience anxious feelings from time to time and on occasions we may become completely overwhelmed by the fear anxiety can create in us. We know its an unhelpful state of mind but nonetheless anxiety can arise no matter what we try.

Buddha taught many ways for us to tame our uncontrolled mind and take control of how we react to situations and the feelings they give rise to and so, during this half-day course, we will explore the methods and meditations we can use to understand our feelings, overcome them and confidently and effectively deal with our daily problems, free from anxiety.

Special Visiting Teacher Meditation Event

Three Magical Meditations

Ancient Wisdom for the Modern World

with Gen Kelsang Jigme, Resident Teacher of Bodhisattva Kadampa Meditation Centre, Brighton.

Saturday 27th April 2024, 10am-4pm

With these three incredible meditation practices we can use them to help solve our daily problems and help others to solve theirs.

Based on the famous instructions “The Three Principal Aspects of the Path” by the Buddhist Master Je Tsongkhapa, we can follow the ancient wisdom of Buddha in a clear and practical presentation. This is the very essence of meditation practice & will help us make swift progress to lasting happiness.

We too can learn, understand and, through meditation, gain experience of these three principal aspects: renunciation, bodhichitta and the correct view of emptiness. As we develop our experience, we will nurture within ourselves the tools we need to transform our ordinary minds and views into the spiritual path with ever growing confidence and skill.

Gen Jigme will present these practices during three sessions on this special day course, giving us clear explanations and guiding us in meditations to deepen our experience and understanding. We can then take this with us to continue using it in our daily lives to truly solve our problems.

Everyone is welcome at this event which is suitable for all.

About The Teacher

Gen Kelsang Jigme is the Resident Teacher of Bodhisattva Kadampa Meditation Centre in Brighton. Ordained as a monk in 1997 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Gen Jigme has studied, practised and taught Kadampa Buddhism under Geshe Kelsang’s guidance in major Kadampa Centres throughout the UK for many years. He shows a humble, kind example as a practitioner and his clear explanations of Buddha’s teachings give us the confidence to practise them in our daily life.

Improving Self-esteem

Saturday 11th May 2024, 10am – 1.15pm

We all want to feel good about ourselves but all too often our sense of worth seems to rest on achievements, approval or appearance. We often judge ourselves based on the perception of others rather than through holding confidence in our own standing. We may hold negative views about our qualities and capability based on these.

Since we cannot avoid criticism, always be successful, liked by others or receive their approval, we are vulnerable to feelings of low-self esteem.

In this half-day course we will explore how it is possible to be anchored in states of mind that are strong, stable and deeply peaceful – leaving us confident in our good qualities and allowing them to come to the fore.

Through meditation we can learn to connect to our extraordinary potential rather than our limitations and to transform our difficulties, improve our relationships and progress on the spiritual path. In this way we begin to have an authentic self–esteem, based on inner validation, that does not depend upon external conditions.

Schedule

Session 1: 10am – 11.15am Teaching with guided meditations
Session 2: 12pm – 1.15pm Teaching with guided meditations

Our Coffee Bar will be open during the break serving hot and cold drinks, delicious home-made cakes and a variety of snacks.

Just Breathe

Saturday 6th July 2024, 10am – 1.15pm

Meditating on the gentle sensation of our breath as it enters and leaves our nostrils is a well-known preliminary practice – it’s easy to understand, is free to do and can be done anywhere.

We may be familiar with this meditation but there are other simple breathing meditation practices we can also use, and this half-day course will be all about them: what they are and how to do them.

These very practical meditations can be undertaken anywhere, at anytime, and they will help us to quickly calm our mind, settle our unpleasant feelings, allow us to focus and to overcome our everyday problems. Like a bandage in our first aid box, these meditations can act like a soothing ointment for our mind, helping us to get through the day peacefully and positively.
