Dedication for NKT Day 2024

New Kadampa

Tradition Day

Saturday 6th April 2024

The first Saturday in April is set aside to commemorate the founding of NKT-IKBU (New Kadampa Tradition – The International Kadampa Buddhist Union) by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche in 1991.

Prayers are made for the flourishing of Kadam Dharma throughout the world so that all living beings might quickly find permanent inner peace.

Above all, we remember the extraordinary kindness of Venerable Geshe Kelsang in founding NKT-IKBU.

Below is the official text of the Dedication issued by the NKT for use by Kadampa practitioners on this special day. Please feel free to include these in your daily prayers, Heart Jewel or Wishfulfilling Jewel practices.

Dedication for NKT Day

Dear Venerable Geshe-la, our precious Spiritual Guide, with this special puja we celebrate your extraordinary vision in creating and sustaining the New Kadampa Tradition.

To meet the needs of the people of this modern age, with great skill and wisdom, you have made a special presentation of the pure Buddhist tradition that is rooted in the authentic teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and Je Tsongkhapa. In choosing the name, New Kadampa Tradition, you are encouraging us to follow the example of the ancient Kadampas, who used all Buddha’s teachings as practical advice for transforming all daily activities into the path to enlightenment.

Dear Venerable Geshe-la, with deep faith and gratitude we remember and honour your supreme kindness, and dedicate our thoughts and prayers towards the spreading and flourishing of pure Kadam Dharma throughout the world.

May this pure Dharma that comes from Buddha Shakyamuni, from Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa, and from your heart, remain forever in this world; and may these teachings take root and grow well in the hearts of all Kadampa Buddhists, now and for generations to come.

We request and pray that through your continual blessings and guidance, all the Dharma centres of this tradition flourish in peace and harmony, and may all Kadampa practitioners who live in these centres and elsewhere be free from all obstacles to their spiritual practice. Through engaging in the three study programmes and practising Je Tsongkhapa’s joyful path to enlightenment, sincerely and purely, may they greatly increase their wisdom and compassion; and, by always following the liberating teachings of Buddha, help to bring lasting happiness to all living beings.

Above all, we pray that you, our Founder and Spiritual Guide, our refuge and protector, always remain with us, guiding and protecting us, and may we help to ensure that all your pure wishes are quickly fulfilled.

O Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka, through the power of your blessings and our sincere practice of your instructions, may Dharma study and meditation flourish forever in all the Temples and Dharma centres of the New Kadampa Tradition. May all those oppressed by physical and mental suffering find inner strength, and come to enjoy true peace and happiness. May those who have influence over others be endowed with great compassion, and the world be free from greed and conflict. And may all beings eventually experience the everlasting joy of full enlightenment.
